Welcome to McAfee Security Scan Plus

McAfee Security Scan Plus, and its predecessor McAfee Security Scan, are free diagnostic tools for your PC that allows you to simply and easily check your anti-virus software, firewall protection, and web security status on your computer. This tool runs as a compliment to any existing security software and does not negatively impact the performance of your computer.

Your PCs security status is determined by the state of your anti-virus, firewall protection and web security status. Your security software may be switched off or become out of date without you realizing. Or it could be that you do not have security software installed on your PC. By running McAfee Security Scan Plus, you can now have insight as to the status of your PC’s security.

When the scan is complete, you’ll see a report detailing the presence and status of your security protection. If problems are detected, McAfee will provide a recommendation on the best security solution.

To check your protection status, your PC must be connected to the Internet so that McAfee Security Scan Plus can check for software updates. If your McAfee Security Scan Plus is not the latest version, we'll ask you to update your software before we start the security scan.

Scanning your Computer

When it's time to check your security, McAfee automatically opens McAfee Security Scan Plus. Alternatively, you can scan you computer at any time by simply clicking on the Security Scan desktop icon.

Your scan result is available within a couple of minutes.

Status of your Security Scan Plus

There are four status types that you may see in the Overall Security Status bar:

  • Your computer is at risk: At risk because anti-virus software, firewall protection and/or web security is not found, out of date, or turned off. Click Fix Now to go to McAfee's website, where you can purchase complete protection.
  • No issues found: Your computer is running a non-McAfee anti-virus, firewall protection and /or web security is on and up-to date.
  • Your Computer is Protected by McAfee: You are protected because you're running up to date McAfee anti-virus, firewall protection and web security.
  • Issues Found: Issues are found because you do not have web security even though your anti-virus software and, firewall protection, may be on and up to date. Click Fix Now to go to McAfee's website, where you can download McAfee Site Advisor Free!

Uninstalling Security Scan

There are two ways to remove McAfee Security Scan Plus:

You can also uninstall through the McAfee Security Scan Plus folder:

  1. Under Start menu, go to all Programs
  2. Open McAfee Security Scan Plus folder
  3. Select “Uninstall”
