The Basics
It'll be easier to use SpamKiller if you know a little about how it works. Here's an illustration:
|
As you can see, SpamKiller and your e-mail program work in similar ways: They both talk to the e-mail server where your incoming messages are waiting.
There's an important difference, however. When you check mail with your e-mail program, it will download all new messages from the server and then delete them. SpamKiller, on the other hand, only deletes messages that it believes to be spam.
So why are we telling you all this? Because:
- You must let SpamKiller filter your messages before you read them with your e-mail program
If not, your e-mail program may remove new messages before SpamKiller has had a chance to filter them. Which means that you will get as much spam as before.
- Because of this, you should switch off automatic checking in your e-mail program
