Replace a Windows Computer With a Product Key

Prerequisite: Perform this task if you did provide a product key while performing this task: Install McAfee Online Backup Backup Software for Windows.

To continue replacing your Windows computer with a new one:

  1. The backup software recognizes that your credentials were used previously.
  2. Enter your password. The Summary window appears.

  5. Choose the appropriate action:
    • To open the Settings window to change which files are selected before the first backup starts, click Settings. You might want to deselect files if you don't have enough storage space, or to ensure your most critical files are backed up as quickly as possible, selecting less critical files for later backups.
    • To finish replacing the selected computer, click Finish.
The backup software is installed and selected files are backed up when default automatic settings permit or when you manually start a backup. Files in the McAfee Online Backup cloud from a replaced computer are associated with this new computer as if they had always been backed up from the new computer.

If your previously backed up files are present on the new computer, those files are not uploaded to the McAfee cloud unless they were changed or are sufficiently small. In this case, your first backup on a replacement computer can finish relatively quickly.

Next Steps: You can change which files are backed up and manage when backups happen any time you like.
