  1. Find the McAfee Online Backupsetup.exe installation file in the location you downloaded it to. This is either the Download folder for your Web browser, or your Desktop, or the folder you chose. The default download locations C:\Users\Username\Downloads. Username represents your username for your user account on your computer.
  2. Double-click the file.
  3. (Optional) If you see a security question about whether to run this file, click Run. The Welcome window appears.
  4. Accept the license agreement, then click Install.
  5. Provide your account credentials.
    • If you have a product key, click Use a product key and provide that and the email address at which you received it, then click Next.
  6. (Optional) If you uninstalled the backup software from this computer and chose to save your settings, choose whether you wan to import your settings in the window that appears. For more information, see Uninstalling or Reinstalling.

  11. Choose the appropriate action:
    • To immediately start backing up the automatically selected files, click Finish.
    • To change which files are selected before the first backup starts, click Settings. You might want to deselect files if you don't have enough storage space, or to select only your most critical files to back them up as quickly as possible. You can select less important files for later backups any time you like.
Note: If you do this, the first backup starts when settings permit, or you can manually start the first backup.
The backup software is installed and the selected files begin backing up. It is normal for the first backup to take hours, days, or even weeks!

You can use your computer while backups are running.

Leave your computer running and connected to the Internet for as long as possible. If your computer sleeps, hibernates, goes into standby mode, or is turned off, backups automatically resume at the next opportunity. Each backup session reports progress independent of previous sessions. All backup sessions begin reporting progress with zero, even a resumed first backup that ran previously for hours or days.

Next Steps: You can change which files are backed up and manage when backups happen.
